I stop, he smiles at me, then tell me his story. Giuseppe is 68 at that time. It is of Calabrian origin. He has lived in France since 1970, worked in a bank and is now retired. He lived in the beautiful Marais district, the oldest district in Paris. Pay taxes like everyone else, he had children. From the moment he retired eight years before our meeting, he has been feeding pigeons. For his new “attitude” Giuseppe received a 13,000 euro fine, which he pays and will pay until 2025, they took his house away and now he lives on the street. Giuseppe suffered several verbal and physical attacks with serious consequences for his health. Every morning Giuseppe is awake first of all and continues to meet his little ones who are waiting for him in different points of the city, and continues until sunset. Giuseppe gives them over 70 kg of wheat every day, which he pays with his pension. He is among them as if it were nothing, the pigeons fluttered on him too but he continues his ritual while the curious and a little fascinated people take pictures and observe him. Sometimes for sparrows there are brioches, which are more nutritious than the normal box. At the end of the day, deliver the sick pigeons to an association that takes care of them. Then he goes back to his truck, puts away the bags he has dragged for almost twenty hours and goes to sleep. Giuseppe asks for justice: he asks to get back the apartment that was unjustly removed, he asks that whoever threw in the street will be tried for abuse of power, he asks that his story not be forgotten and that the pigeons, like him, used to live in peace. And if you ask him why he loves more, he replies: \u201cThe thing they prefer most is not to eat. It is freedom \u201d.
About Giuseppe I find some other articles on the web, the last one dates back to 2015. I hope he does well with his Pigeons Parisiens.
——————————–
Un uomo con una valigia di grano sta dando da mangiare ai piccioni, che subito accorrono in massa.
